MULTI-CULTURAL MINISTRY

A Journey Towards Wholeness

Our congregations are filled with people from many different cultures.  Some of it is visually apparent – different skin colors or genders or physical abilities.  Some of it is harder to see – economic or geographic cultures; learning styles; invisible disabilities.

I have experienced three decades of the UU journey to understanding how we can help our communities learn to first see cultures, and then appreciate and include cultural differences.  Many different trainings and programs have been helpful to my own learning about this.  Even more important to me has been the lived experience of companioning people learning about multi-cultural competencies through my work with two congregations, several non-profits, three UU denominational Boards, and the interfaith VOICE community organizing group.
