GOOD GOVERNANCE

Boards that Make a Difference

I have served on many boards (educational, non-profit, church and denominational) and led a number of them.  I began studying good governance in seminary, under the guidance of OD professor and UU Religious Educator Helen Bishop. Subsequently, I learned from many Carver consultants, as well as from UU leaders working in governance.  I have consulted myself with a number of Boards, to help explain principles of good governance. While I am a proponent of policy-based governance, I most highly recommend the principles of clear procedures of communication, structures of accountability, and clarification of roles, all which lead to trust and cooperation.
