THE REV. DR. LINDA OLSON PEEBLES
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING
I am passionate about interfaith community organizing. This is based on the principles taught by Saul Alinsky, who believed that people coming together can build power to make real change. I helped to found the vibrant VOICE (Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement), a group of over 70 institutions – Muslim, Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, UU, a university and a theological school. It is multi-faith, multi-racial, and multi-cultural. Over the years since VOICE’s public launch in 2008, through thousands of one-on-one conversations and the building of real relationships, VOICE has had a series of “wins” for people living in the margins. Elected officials respect VOICE and turn to us often. The skilled leadership of trained organizers has taught hundreds of regular people how to discover their own power and nurture it in others.
"I have you to thank for being a prime mover in originating VOICE, this amazing vehicle for my desire to do something more in the world. The power of this organization and your moral power have changed many lives in Northern Virginia."
